Default Guitar cab impulse

Hi Marco,

Have you ever heard about guitar cab impulses ?

Here it is a demo:

http://forum.recordingreview.com/f13...gie-gear-6991/

The guy used a Triaxis+2:90+ recto cab.

He did an impulse of the 2:90+recto cab+mic, and he did a A/B test

There are 3 clips:
the first is the Triaxis line out only (very fizzy)
the 2nd clip is the whole Mesa rig mic'ed
The 3rd clip is the Triaxis straight in the soundcard + impulse of the poweramp/cab/mic.

The difference is so small !!

The possibilities are great !! you can go in a studio, make an impulse of your poweramp+cab+mics with ideal placement, and use this for home recording !

Definitely the future for home recording. Moreover, you don't use your powertubes.

If you need more info about impulses, let me know

Cheers

Sounds great! Who knows where the technology will bring us in the future, and this is just the beginning I'm actually getting some good tones from a plugin recently developed by Digidesign called "Eleven"...I'm using it for all the recent demos we're doing and I gotta say that the amps modeled are very very close to the original ones, there's even a Mark IIC+ which sound (and looks) pretty convincing. I did a short demo using the Rectifier model and a 4x12 V30 equipped cab.

7 strings straight to the analog input of a Digi 003 rack, no preamps, no frills before.
The original has more middle-tops, more beef as they say but I didn't used any eq. to fatten it up yet. And since you have always to eq. your tone in a recording environment I'm quite sure I can get the same Roadking/Rectifier tone with that plugin.

I agree the clip is pretty convincing !!

All what I heard on forums about this plug-in was rather negative, this is why I'd be really interested in hearing a clip of the IIC+ (lead tone). Do you have one? The new clips I heard on the Digidesign's website much more convincing than the first they posted monthes ago ! the mix of the MarkIIC+, especially the end of the clip, is really cool !!

Take care

Here it is. I re-recorded the Drained solo to show the IIC+ model. I just eq.ed the mids a little bit and added a bit of delay like the original

I've recorded Recto amps with Royer R121s, Neve preamps, and Mytek converters that didn't turn out as well as this simulation. Most of that was due to the tastes of the guitar player and skill of the guitar player, but these modern tools drastically reduce the "screw up" factor. You can't really mess up a recording when all you have to do is plug a guitar into a Hi-Z input on your audio interface and fire up a plugin.

99% of the tone is in the fingers. I used a bunch of stuff on There's Hope and nobody could believe that some shit was done with Guitar Rig 2 or even a V-Amp 2. It's all about making the tone you feel comfortable to play with.

great tone with Drained solo. Congrats !! The best modeling sim of the IIC+ so far !! Great plug-in.

I agree the fingers are at least 75% of the tone.

I should be curious to know which song you recorded with Guitar Rig 2 or V-amp 2... I think the solo of the track you sent to Favored nations was recorded with a modeling stuff

Cheers

The leads on Still Hurts, There's Hope and Sunset Lights are Guitar Rig 2, the lead on Memories is the V-Amp2 as well as the clean guitars on Sunset Lights, lead on Genius is a Boss GT-6, the chicken pickin' guitar on Texas BBQ is the Lonestar through a Guitar Rig 2 preset. Also the cleans on Still Hurts are my small Roland Microcube combo...the rest is all real stuff. And yes, the demo I sent to Favored Nation was Sunset Lights using mainly the Triaxis and Guitar Rig 2

The lead on Still Hurts is one of my favourite !

The Sunset light lead is perhaps the one I love the less, and it is Triaxis

So now when the player is great, it besomes harder and harder to tell the difference between real stuff ans sim. And often, a good sim is better than a bad mic'ing...

Nope, that's Guitar Rig 2 as well. Same tone, different eq. because of the different arrangement and instruments placement. On that particular tune I used the Triaxis just for the heavy rhythms. This demonstrate how sometimes raising or lowering an eq. knob can drastically change the tone. I also forgot that on Farewell the lead was a Lexicon MPXG2 (using its preamp section)
